\nIn a statement yesterday, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said: \u201cThe Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet has announced that His Excellency the President Cde ED Mnangagwa has appointed Minister N. \nMinister Mupfumira was arrested last Thursday by the reconfigured Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on allegations of corruption involving $95 million of National Social Security Authority (NSSA) funds.<\/p>\n
Chief prosecutor Mr Michael Reza presented a certificate from the Prosecutor-General\u2019s Office to detain Mupfumira for three weeks on the basis that she could use her position as minister to interfere with investigations.<\/p>\n
Analysts say the move by President Mnangagwa to appoint a caretaker minister to manage Minister Mupfumira\u2019s portfolio will also allow the ministry, which is seen as a low-hanging fruit, to help in the country\u2019s economic turnaround.<\/p>\n
The country\u2019s short-term economic blueprint, the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), which runs from October 2018 to December next year, targets support for \u201caggressive marketing and rebranding of Zimbabwe\u201d, to facilitate tourist arrivals taking advantage the country\u2019s diverse tourist attractions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will hinge on provision of innovative incentive packages, and the relaxation of all restrictive visa requirements, among others measures,\u201d reads the TSP.<\/p>\n
The TSP also seeks to review tourism operators\u2019 licensing requirements with a view to improve entry into the industry and competitiveness of tourism products.<\/p>\n
