{"id":1270,"date":"2019-09-17T01:45:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-17T01:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zimwonders.co.zw\/?p=1270"},"modified":"2019-09-17T01:45:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T01:45:00","slug":"swing-into-action-to-save-zimbabwes-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zimwonders.co.zw\/index.php\/2019\/09\/17\/swing-into-action-to-save-zimbabwes-wildlife\/","title":{"rendered":"Swing Into Action to Save Zimbabwe&#8217;s Wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ONLY<\/strong> a few days left for an exciting opportunity to help conserve Zimbabwe\u2019s wildlife by supporting<br \/>\nthe Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit\u2019s (VFAPU) annual fundraising golf day to be held<br \/>\nin Harare this Friday, September 20.<\/p>\n<p>While the field is filling fast, there is still space for more teams to enter, as well as for<br \/>\nbusinesses or individuals to sponsor greens, tee-boxes and prizes in the event<br \/>\norganised by hospitality group Africa Albida Tourism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/travelstart.pxf.io\/c\/1428617\/436316\/5446\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/\/a.impactradius-go.com\/display-ad\/5446-436316\" alt=\"Travelstart Domestic\" width=\"688\" height=\"64\" border=\"0\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" src=\"\/\/travelstart.pxf.io\/i\/1428617\/436316\/5446\" width=\"0\" height=\"0\" border=\"0\"><\/p>\n<p>VFAPU head of operations Charles Brightman said the US$30,000 raised at the<br \/>\nBorrowdale Brooke Golf Club event last year was vital in ensuring that its operations<br \/>\nagainst all forms of poaching in the Victoria Falls region could continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur operations last year and so far this year have produced positive results &#8211; 166<br \/>\npoachers have been apprehended, and we\u2019ve been able to save 19 mammals injured<br \/>\nby poaching activities, including three elephant and six buffalo,\u201d Brightman said.<\/p>\n<p>During 2018, VFAPU also removed a total of 215 wires snares from the bush<br \/>\nsurrounding Victoria Falls, while a further 56 have been retrieved so far this year, he<br \/>\nsaid. He appealed for support to ensure this vital work continued.<\/p>\n<p>Africa Albida Tourism (AAT) chief executive Ross Kennedy said VFAPU had always<br \/>\nbeen a major part of the hospitality group\u2019s corporate social responsibility program.<br \/>\nEvery cent raised through the VFAPU Golf Day goes directly to VFAPU, and in the last<br \/>\nsix years alone US$145,000 has been raised for the unit through this event, Kennedy<br \/>\nadded.
