Dhow on the Zambezi this Month

In what could be a first on the Zambezi in modern day tourism, there are whispers in the wind of an exclusive new experience from Hideaways on the horizon.

The new kid on the block, after months of planning, creating and fine-tuning shared the news about Zambezi Truth, their romantic East African style dhow that will escort guests on a Bohemian dream drifting along the Zambezi River at sunset & sunrise.

“As the sky turns orange and the first stars begin to twinkle, guests will be treated to cocktails and canapés aboard a luxurious traditional boat decked out with colourful silk cushions and sparkling lanterns. The lap of the waves against the boat mingles magically with the sounds of the bush as hippos, elephants and other wildlife prepare to settle down for the night.

“This exclusive experience will launch in July in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Zambezi Truth dhow promises to stand out beautifully and romantically on the Zambezi River and promises a feeling of intimacy and personalised adventure with a definite WOW factor.

“Sailing a maximum of 12 adventurers on a journey of a lifetime, drifting through the waters that eventually culminate in the mighty Victoria Falls. This trip is costed at 120 USD and includes delightful drinks and canapés for the duration of the journey. We look forward to welcoming you on-board this magical experience in the African bush”, they revealed on their soon to be coming website.

About Dhow

According to Wikipedia, a dhow is the generic name of a number of traditional sailing vessels with one or more masts with settee or sometimes lateen sails, used in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean region.

Historians are divided as to whether the dhow was invented by Arabs or Indians. Typically sporting long thin hulls, dhows are trading vessels primarily used to carry heavy items, such as fruit, fresh water, or other heavy merchandise, along the coasts of Eastern Arabia (Arab states of the Persian Gulf) East Africa, Yemen and coastal South Asia (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh).

Larger dhows have crews of approximately thirty, smaller ones typically around twelve.
